How it works
A blood-pressure reading has two numbers: systolic, the peak as the heart contracts, over diastolic, the resting pressure between beats. This calculator places the pair into the standard categories and also reports pulse pressure, the gap between them. Using widely cited thresholds, under 120/80 is normal, 120–129 systolic with normal diastolic is elevated, 130–139 or 80–89 is stage 1, and 140/90 or above is stage 2. A reading above roughly 180/120 is a crisis requiring immediate medical attention, not a calculator. One reading proves nothing. Pressure swings through the day and rises with stress, caffeine, a full bladder and the doctor's office itself — the well-documented "white-coat" effect. Diagnosis rests on repeated measurements over time, which is why this tool classifies a number and does not diagnose a person.

Frequently asked questions
Is this a diagnosis?
No — it is informational only. Consult a healthcare professional for any medical decision.
What is pulse pressure?
The difference between systolic and diastolic; around 40 mmHg is typical.
How do I measure my blood pressure correctly?
Sit with your back supported and feet flat, rest five minutes first, put the cuff on a bare upper arm at heart level, and stay silent. Avoid coffee and smoking for 30 minutes before. Take two or three readings a minute apart and use the average.
