How it works
Unit price is total price divided by quantity, and it is the only honest way to compare packages of different sizes. A 750 g box at 4.50 costs 6.00 per kilo; a 1.2 kg box at 6.60 costs 5.50 per kilo — the bigger box wins, but only the division reveals it. Packaging is designed to make that comparison hard. Sizes are chosen so the arithmetic is awkward (330 g, 425 g, 1.13 L), and "value" wording appears on packs that are not the best value. Shelf labels in many countries must show a unit price precisely because shoppers cannot compute it on the spot. Use a common unit to stay consistent: per kilo, per litre, per 100 g, per sheet, per wash. And compare like with like — a concentrate priced per litre is not comparable to a ready-to-use product until you account for the dilution.
