How it works

Time = Distance ÷ Speed

This calculator estimates how long a journey will take from the distance and your average speed: time = distance ÷ speed. Enter 300 km at 100 km/h and it returns about 3 hours. Remember it gives moving time at a steady speed. A real trip is usually longer because of fuel or rest stops, traffic, junctions and the time spent accelerating and slowing down. For long drives, add 10–15% as a realistic buffer. The same formula works for any mode of travel — walking, cycling, running or flying — as long as you enter a realistic average speed for that mode.

Frequently asked questions

Why does my real trip take longer than the estimate?

The estimate assumes a constant speed with no interruptions. Real journeys add stops, traffic and time spent speeding up and slowing down.

How do I estimate my arrival time?

Add the calculated duration to your departure time. For long trips, include a buffer of 10–15% for breaks and congestion.

Can I use it for cycling or running?

Yes. Just enter a realistic average speed for that activity — for example 15 km/h for casual cycling.
