How it works
This calculator answers the reverse of the usual percentage question. Instead of "what is 25% of 80?", it solves "20 is 25% of what number?" — divide the part by the percentage expressed as a decimal: 20 ÷ 0.25 = 80. The logic: if the part represents P% of the whole, then the whole must be the part scaled back up by 100/P. A part of 30 at 15% means a whole of 200; a part of 45 at 90% means a whole of 50. It appears everywhere once you notice it: a test score of 18 marked as 72% reveals a 25-point exam; a deposit of 150 described as 10% of the price reveals a 1,500 total; a survey where 480 respondents are 32% of participants implies 1,500 people asked.
