How it works
Converting a grade between scales is a proportion: score ÷ current maximum × target maximum. A 14 out of 20 becomes 14 ÷ 20 × 100 = 70%. The same arithmetic works for any pair of scales — out of 10, out of 20, out of 100, out of 5 — because it simply asks what fraction of the maximum was achieved and re-expresses it. The calculator also shows the percentage, which is the universal middle ground. One caution: a linear conversion is faithful to the numbers but not necessarily to their meaning. Grading cultures differ sharply — a French 16/20 is a distinction while the arithmetic 80% looks ordinary on a scale where 90 is expected. Use the conversion for arithmetic, and read national context before drawing conclusions.
