How it works
Splitting a bill fairly takes one line of arithmetic: add the tip to the bill, then divide by the number of people. Per person = bill × (1 + tip%) ÷ people. A 120 bill with 15% tip among 4 people is 138 ÷ 4 = 34.50 each. Apply the tip before dividing — a percentage of the whole bill split evenly is identical to each person tipping on their own share, so one calculation covers everyone. The equal split is the social default because it is fast and friction-free, but it quietly subsidises the lobster over the salad. For very uneven orders, itemised splitting is fairer; for everything else, an even split with the tip baked in — exactly what this tool computes — keeps the end of dinner painless.

Frequently asked questions
How do I split a bill with tip?
Add the tip to the total, then divide by the number of people.
Is the tip before or after splitting?
Add the tip to the whole bill first, then split — everyone shares it equally.
Should we split evenly or by what each person ordered?
Evenly is faster and fine when orders are similar; itemised is fairer when they diverge a lot. A common compromise: split mains individually and share starters, drinks and the tip evenly.
