How it works
Relative strength divides the weight you lift by your own body weight. It answers a fairer question than the bar alone: a 60 kg athlete squatting 120 kg (2.0× body weight) is, pound for pound, stronger than a 100 kg athlete squatting 150 kg (1.5×). This is the standard way to compare lifters of different sizes and to track your own progress if your body weight changes. Powerlifting classes, climbing, gymnastics and combat sports all care about strength per kilogram more than absolute load. Common intermediate-to-advanced landmarks (after consistent training): squat around 1.5–2× body weight, bench press 1–1.5×, deadlift 2–2.5×. Beginners start well below these; elite lifters exceed them substantially. Judge yourself against your own trend first.
