How it works
This calculator turns a run — a distance and the time it took — into your average speed in km/h and mph, alongside the equivalent pace. It is the bridge between how runners talk (pace) and how the rest of the world measures motion (speed). Speed and pace are the same information in opposite directions: 12 km/h equals exactly 5:00 min/km. Doubling your speed halves your pace figure. Treadmills usually display speed, outdoor watches display pace — this tool lets you translate between the two instantly. For context: a brisk walk is about 6 km/h, an easy jog 8–9 km/h, a trained runner cruises at 12–14 km/h, and elite marathoners hold about 20–21 km/h for the entire 42.195 km.

Frequently asked questions
Speed vs pace?
Speed is distance per hour; pace is time per kilometre — inverse views of the same effort.
What pace is 12 km/h?
Exactly 5 minutes per kilometre.
How do I set a treadmill to match my outdoor pace?
Convert your pace to speed: divide 60 by your pace in minutes per km. A 5:30/km pace is 60 ÷ 5.5 ≈ 10.9 km/h. Many runners add 1% incline to mimic outdoor effort.
