How it works
A fraction is a division waiting to happen: 3/4 means 3 ÷ 4 = 0.75. This converter performs that division and also shows the percentage (multiply by 100), since fraction, decimal and percent are three costumes for the same number. Some fractions terminate (1/4 = 0.25) while others repeat forever (1/3 = 0.333…, 1/7 = 0.142857142857…). The rule is elegant: a fraction terminates exactly when its reduced denominator contains no prime factors other than 2 and 5 — the primes of base ten. Decimals are the currency of calculators and spreadsheets, but fractions stay exact: 1/3 is precise where 0.33 is already rounded.
