How it works
The number of tiles you need is the surface to cover divided by the area of one tile, plus a waste margin. A 30 × 30 cm tile covers 0.09 m², so a square metre takes about 11.1 tiles — in practice you count 12. The waste margin is not optional. Tiles must be cut at walls, around pipes and in corners, and offcuts are rarely reusable. Budget 10% for a simple rectangular room, and 15% or more for diagonal layouts, herringbone patterns or rooms with many angles and obstacles. Buy the whole quantity in one go, from the same production batch: tile colours vary noticeably between batches, and a top-up bought months later may not match. Keep a few spares after the job — they are the only way to replace a cracked tile invisibly years down the line.
