How it works
Brick quantity starts from area. One square metre holds 10,000 ÷ (brick length × height) bricks, with both dimensions in centimetres — a standard 22 × 6 cm face gives about 75 bricks per m². Multiply by your wall area for the total. The calculation includes a 10% allowance, and you want it: bricks break in transit and on site, corners and openings force cuts, and you should keep a small reserve for later repairs. Buying the exact count is how projects stall a day before the end. A note on mortar: the joints between bricks occupy real space, roughly 1 cm all around, so counting on the bare brick face slightly overestimates the number needed — which is precisely what makes the estimate safe rather than short. For thick walls (two brick layers), double the result.

Why add 10%?

Does mortar change the count?
Slightly — including the mortar joint in the brick size gives a more accurate count.
Do I need to subtract doors and windows?
Yes for large openings — subtract their area from the wall area before calculating. But keep the 10% margin: cutting bricks around openings generates extra waste.
